Medicare Payment Advisory Commission Calls for Payment Reform
Med PAC calls for:
- repeal of the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula for Medicare physician payment
- move to payments that support quality and value
- overhaul of post-acute care to prevent unnecessary re-admissions , curb over payments and design better management for the most complex patients
- End exorbitant rates for basic medical services in hospitals which can be easily performed in physician offices.
These recommendations are similar to the earlier ones made by the General Society for Internal Medicine : http://oconnorreport.com/2013/03/a-call-to-end-fee-for-service-health-care/
